ANIME: Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta / The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

Here we are with yet another anime opening song! The anime in question is quite silly and wholesome with an interesting art style and a pretty cool opening song. I was thinking of doing another full cover like my Death Note project but I settled for a simple guitar cover with some added improvisations, namely the chorus lead guitar.

Similar to my Dance Through The Danger cover, I used an AI to separate the drums, bass and guitar tracks and effectively replaced the original guitar with my own. It's not perfect but it sounds very convincing! For the isolated vocal track I used an old trick where you take the original and instrumental track and invert the audio waves on one of them. The result is a good acapella version. The AI vocal track had too many artifacts and sounded muffled.

I went down to the beach and filmed myself playing the song. I used a low angle so that the sky became the background and then used color key filter to remove it. I had to blur the anime opening as it is copyrighted. The most annoying part about filming near the beach is the overabundance of mosquitos. I had something like fourteen marks when I was done. I had to shake them off many times during the recording which resulted in some parts being unusable for the video. I filmed four takes of the entire song to make sure I had enough footage to edit the good parts together. It was a lot of work but I think the result was worth it.
